THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE REGIONAL MEDIA
Abstract
This article examines the role regional media play in constructiing a region’s publics. It examines how journalists at one regional media conceptualise the public and investigates how these concepts are played out through a series of articles from the same newspaper. It is difficult to have a mission of the regional media. Consumers and citizens value the role local and regional content plays in their lives; local and regional news in particular helps to inform people about what is going on in their local community, while news and other types of local content contribute towards reflecting cultural identity and representing diversity and alternative viewpoints.
