Abstract

The nicknames of the village Idumala, Aspindza district is very interesting in terms of structure and semantics. Despite the village is small nicknames given there is quite diversified. They are named according to different features, which can be grouped as given after physical characteristics, physical disability, distinguished feature or character, names are given due to frequently used word by a person, according to other persons’ or their own utterance, because of resemblance with a film actor or any other person, hair or face color, profession, due to irregular speech, addiction to something and sometimes because of the nickname of the ancestor. Study of nicknames is very important for onomastic sciences. The village Idumala has not been studied from this prospective before. We will be able to introduce onomasticons of the village residents to the larger society, as considering that it is quite useful and very important for the linguists and other persons concerned with the subject. Accordingly, the work has a certain theoretical value. Currently, study of the nicknames with certain history is quite significant as it provides the information. It is known that the proper nouns often are used for revealing the underlying secret.
